On April 11, 2008 the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a Motor Vehicle Accident with ejection on I-84 Westbound approximately 1 mile from Exit 16 at 12:30 am. Engine 3 and FD-11 responded to the scene and found a car in the median, facing the wrong direction as a result of the impact. The driver was found lying next to the vehicle, and was quickly packaged and transported by FD-11 with a Campion Ambulance Medic onboard. Engine 3 assisted with support functions by helping to hold back pieces of the car while the ambulance crew worked on the patient.

Engine 3 remained on scene for a few minutes to assist the Connecticut state Police with scene lighting, while they completed their investigation. The car struck with sufficient force that a large tree sliced through the passenger side of the vehicle and ripped part of the roof from its supports on the driver's side. The Engine was outside of the Engine compartment and the vehicle battery was found behind the vehicle.
